As Head of Global Innovation for Duke Medicine, Dr. Krishna Udayakumar is responsible for the development and implementation of global strategy as well as global business development for Duke Medicine. Through Duke Medicine Global, he works closely with leaders across the medical center to expand Duke’s international activities and develop global partnerships across translational and clinical research, global health, education and training, healthcare delivery, healthcare management, and related areas.

Dr. Udayakumar also serves as Executive Director of the International Partnership for Innovative Healthcare Delivery, a recently launched non-profit organization affiliated with Duke Medicine that seeks to support innovators in their efforts to scale and replicate successful healthcare delivery solutions globally. Working directly with entrepreneurs around the world as well as supporters from industry, academia, foundations, and governments, the IPIHD seeks to facilitate the growth of transformative models of care across developing and developed economies.

Dr. Udayakumar serves as Assistant Professor of Global Health and Medicine at Duke University as well as Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore. In addition, he is Associate Program Director of the Duke Medicine Management and Leadership Pathway for Residents, an innovative graduate medical education program combining clinical and management training.

He was born in Bangalore, India, and moved to the state of Virginia with his family at the age of seven. Dr. Udayakumar is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia having received his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with distinction in 1999. He received both an MD from the Duke University School of Medicine and an MBA (with a concentration in Health Sector Management) from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in 2004, where he was a Fuqua Scholar. Dr. Udayakumar completed his residency training in internal medicine at Duke and served as Assistant Chief Resident at the Durham VA Medical Center.
